The Kansas Department of Veterans Affairs provides a multitude of financial services for all resident military service members and veterans. The program, in conjunction with the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, ensures that all the men and women of our armed forces receive the maximum allowable financial benefits.
Home Loan Assistance
The Kansas VA works with approved lenders to guarantee a portion of a loan so that servicemen and women can more easily purchase a home or condominium. They also guarantee loans for home improvement or repairs, and are willing to help with refinancing your current mortgage.
Soldiers and Veterans can receive assistance from the VA in enrolling in a number of major educational initiatives, as well as completing their degree in high school or university. Programs such as the Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP), and the Montgomery GI Bill are available to further higher learning, and scholarships are available for National Guardsman. There are also educational benefits available to some family members of disabled or deceased veterans.
There are also a wide range of taxable benefits veterans may receive thanks to the VA. In addition to no state tax on retired military income, tax credits are available to retired and disabled veterans, as well as property owners whose income makes them eligible for assistance from the Homestead Act. There are also reimbursements available for prescription medication, burial expenses, and compensation for disability.
